Trade Winds Wine Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Tasting Notes

In keeping with the style of the award-winning 2019 vintage and showing the distinctive character of a classic Cabernet Sauvignon, the complex nose reveals rich aromas of juicy black cherries, plums and blackcurrants followed by fragrant cedar wood and tobacco notes. The nose follows on to a full, rounded palate of developing flavours of black olives, cassis, and subtle oak spice, with some fine, ripe tannins that give a long, soft finish. This elegant, fresh Cabernet has a well-balanced mouthfeel and a clean black fruit farewell.

Michael Fridjhon – Wine WizardsCerise-edged, black crimson. Slightly smoky dark fruit aromas, hints of cassis, whiffs of floor polish, black olive and chocolate. Still nuanced and fresh on the palate, attention between Morello cherry, bilberry and savoury tannins. Forward, still quite primary, food-friendly.

Suggested Food Pairing

Bacon-wrapped blue cheese stuffed dates or a savoury mushroom tart would make the perfect start to your meal followed with a good juicy steak, especially slightly fattier steaks like ribeye and sirloin, slow-braised lamb shanks, venison, ostrich, or duck. Grilled portobello mushrooms, eggplant dishes or a smoky black bean burger are great plant-based alternatives. End your meal with a cheese and nut board especially hard cheese like aged cheddar, gorgonzola, and hazelnuts, or enjoy with fresh berries with zabaglione, a blackberry sorbet, or some dark chocolate.

Analysis

ALC 14.5 - RS 2.9- TA 5.7 - Ph 3.72

Trade Winds Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is made with grapes from low-yielding vines in Stellenbosch, South Africa’s outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon region.
2021 was one of the best harvests for a few years. A long ripening period gave small berries with good concentration of fruit and structure. Wines have great promise for long maturation.
The wine was matured in 250ℓ French oak barrels, 2nd fill (no new wood) for a period of 18 months.
