Trade Winds Wine savignon blanc 2020
Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Tasting Notes

With fresh and soft acidity, the palate of this harmonious Sauvignon Blanc is complex, balancing the typical character of fresh-cut grass and green herbs with the ripe tropical fruit notes of peach and apricot. It delivers a generous, full nose layered with citrus, pineapple and peach combined with a subtle level of minerality. It has a well-rounded mouthfeel and a smooth, lingering finish.

Michael Fridjhon – Wine Wizards: -“Green-tinged, mid-gold. Faintly smoky blackcurrant leaf and tropical aromas, whiffs of apricot, hints of foliage. Showing good development on the palate, still fresh though with obvious evolution. Almost earthy textures, savoury.”

Suggested Food Pairing

Begin by savouring the delight of freshly opened oysters or a refreshing gazpacho. It also pairs exceptionally well with fish grilled over charcoal, such as Cape Salmon or yellowtail, as well as succulent garlic prawns. For a satisfying main course, consider enjoying it alongside pasta primavera or dishes inspired by Japanese, Thai, or Vietnamese cuisine. Finally, conclude your meal with the delectable combination of goat’s cheese or a tempting passion fruit and mango pavlova.

The Trade Winds Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is a blend of grapes from low-yielding old Sauvignon Blanc vines planted on cool elevated mountain slopes in Stellenbosch, for richer tropical notes and softer acidity. These specifically selected low-yielding old vineyards are historically well known to produce Sauvignon Blancs with a long-lasting character.
A moderate climate throughout the growing season and rain during critical berry growth stages brought favourable conditions for the 2020 grape crop, which yielded an excellent harvest.
The grapes were handpicked and stored in a cold room before crushing and de-stemming. The free-run juice was allowed to settle before fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by one month’s lees contact. Following the European style, Trade Winds believe Sauvignon Blanc should be given time to fulfil its potential.
