Sauvignon Blanc 2021
Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Tasting Notes

This beautifully balanced Sauvignon Blanc is generous in style, with a full nose layered with citrus, pineapple, and peach. The palate is complex, combining the character of fresh-cut grass and green herbs with ripe tropical fruit notes of peach and apricot alongside an enjoyable level of minerality. The wine is fresh with soft acidity, a good mouthfeel and a round lingering finish.

Platter’s 2023 SA Wine Guide – Melange of ripe tropical flavours mingle with bright, zingy acid & citrus vivacity. Light lees contact in tank adds structure & length.”

Suggested Food Pairing

Begin by savouring the delight of freshly opened oysters or a refreshing gazpacho. It also pairs exceptionally well with fish grilled over charcoal, such as Cape Salmon or yellowtail, as well as succulent garlic prawns. For a satisfying main course, consider enjoying it alongside pasta primavera or dishes inspired by Japanese, Thai, or Vietnamese cuisine. Finally, conclude your meal with the delectable combination of goat’s cheese or a tempting passion fruit and mango pavlova.

Analysis

ALC 13.5 - RS. 2.8 - TA 6.4 - Ph. 3.30

The Trade Winds Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is a harmonious blend of grapes from low-yielding old Sauvignon Blanc vines planted on cool, elevated mountain slopes in Stellenbosch (for richer tropical notes and softer acidity) and cool-climate Elgin grapes (for greener herbaceous characters and minerality).
Unusually cooler weather conditions throughout the harvest season resulted in grapes with a higher natural acidity to ripen slower allowing them to develop flavours and colour.
The grapes were handpicked and stored in a cold room before crushing and de-stemming. The free-run juice was allowed to settle before fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by one month’s lees contact.
